Turnbulls Carlisle Lingerie Store Closes Its Door’s After 71 Years
Turnbulls specialist lingerie store has decided to close it’s doors after 71 years of supporting women in the Carlisle area. Owner sisters Sheila Wykes and Alison Johnston decided to close the doors on their lingerie store after what they said had been a terrible 15 months of water coming through the ceiling. The independent lingerie retailer issued a statement in December saying it would close, as “ongoing problems were out of their control”
Turnbulls lingerie store was founded in 1947 in the Currock area of Carlisle by their parents Beryl and Authur selling clothing and gifts. The specialist lingerie store then moved to Scotch Street, Carlisle, moving onto Kinmont Arcade for 19 years. Turnbulls final locations was in Carlyle’s Court where they helped customers for a further 13 years.
Sisters Sheila and Alison have been in charge of the family business Turnbulls Lingerie since 1975 after their parents died.
